Clang, Clang, Clang Went the Trolley

Wow! I can't believe I let so much time go by without a post...again! We have been having so many adventures we want to share with you and I've been putting it off for too long now. Instead of writing a really, really long post, I'll break it up into one for each adventure, but I'll leave them all dated for today. I hope that doesn't confuse anyone!

The Willamette Shore Trolley was giving free rides on April 26 so Skye, Grandma Judy and I decided to walk over and check it out. Since the ride was free it didn't go all the way into Portland, just to the other side of the tunnel (or in our case, to the other side of the trestle...our motorman got distracted and took us too far!). On the way back we got off at the trolley barn for refreshments and a Dixieland jazz band. Skye had a great time and I think we have to add trolleys to our list of things we love to ride...after ferries, since nothing is better than ferries! I think my favorite thing was the way the seats flipped around to face whichever direction the trolley is traveling. Skye loved pretty much everything about it.

Happy Birthday Packy!

Wow! What a difference a week can make! On Saturday, April 12 the girls and I went to the zoo to help Packy celebrate his 46th birthday. It was a beautiful, sunshiney day with a high temp of 82 F so we had a great time! In contrast, Saturday, April 19 was cold. And it snowed. Well, a kind of hail/snow hybrid called graupel (for my fellow word nerds).
Anyway, we had such a good time at the zoo. We went through Steller Cove first and Skye spent some time bonding with one of the Sea Lions. It was swimming in a big circle and every time it came up to the surface it would swim up the window right in front of her. We also found a very clever little letterbox somewhere in Steller Cove! Next we made our way over to the elephants for the festivities. Skye got a pair of elephant ears to wear, we signed Packy's birthday card, and we saw an exhibit of Rama's paintings. We admired the fancy birthday cake and had some banana cake before moving on.
The primate area is being remodeled so we didn't get to see very many monkeys, but Sierra has decided to transfer her affections to penguins so it wasn't too much of a
disappointment. We saw penguins, of course! We decided to finish up in Africa where we found another letterbox that was so cleverly concealed that we felt pretty smart for finding it! By this time we were hot and tired so we hopped MAX and Trimet home for a late lunch and a nap. We hope you have all had some adventures recently! We love you!
